This is an authentic Napoléon III coin, dated 1866 and signed by its designer. The Profile of the French emperor is seen as a Roman emperor wearing a crown of laurel leaves. This is one of the favorite representations of the Emperor whose empire stretch North and East of France before he was defeated in 1815.
While the coin is dated 1866, the mounting is a more recent creation. We estimate the coin was set in the earlier sixties. The setting is crafted in 750/000 solid gold while the 10 Francs coin is 900/000. Many such coins were used to create beautiful rings, cuff links, pendants, etc.
The ring is in very good vintage condition with wear commensurate with age. The camera has magnified a few little scraches on the surface of the coin. They are not visible to the naked eye.
Material: 18K solid gold and 900 solid gold
(size of the coin: 18mm round, of the face of the ring : 22mm)
Period: the coin 1866
Provenance: An estate sale in France
Additional remarks: stamped with the owl assay mark on the shank. The coin is dated 1866 and signed BARRE
