Description: A very nice and rather unusual vintage pewter ice cream mold. The mold is in the shape of a lady's shoe with a high heel and would make a shoe shaped piece of ice cream. The mold is made of three piece, two halves in the shape of the shoe held together with a hinge. Each half has a thumb piece on along the edge and the other at the tip of the shoe to allow you to pry the mold open once the ice cream hardens. The third piece is a cover for the open top of the shoe. This cover is formed such that it would hole the two halves together and insure they are locked. The cover is marked 570 on top. The inside of the mold is flat and smooth except for a raised line delineating the sole and the top of the shoe. It is marked on the exterior with what we believe are the words NY ES Co. and the number 899A on the shoe proper and the number 570 on the edge of the locking top. Please carefully review the photos presented as they are part and parcel of our description.
Date: Uncertain but most likely early to mid 20th century Origin: Was purchased at an estate auction in Southeastern Pennsylvania and was made in New York State.
Size: The base measures ~6" long, ~2" at its widest, and is ~2 1/2" at its highest. The mold weighs over one pound and 2 ounces.
Maker: ES Co.
Marks: Marked on the exterior of the shoe with what we believe are the words NY ES Co. and the number 899A on the shoe proper and the number 570 on the edge of the locking top.
Condition: It is in excellent condition. The piece closes very well and the two halves fit together very well and locks well when the top is on. It is a nice piece and would display very well in your collection. The inside is clean and the design is intact and looks great. The piece has some general wear mostly on the exterior commensurate with its age and utilitarian function. The outside is soiled, has scratches, dings, and dust which could probably benefit from a good cleaning, but we leave that to discretion of the next owner. Be that as it may, the piece is great looking and intact. Please see photo for additional condition information.
