Absolutely gorgeous young girl wearing a Puka shell necklace and earring. Extremely rare portrait painting from the South Pacific or Hawaii. Painted in the 1940’s - 1950’s she measures 15 inches wide and 18 inches tall. Signed by artist illegibly lower right. Looking at it with a black light I do not see any restorations but do see a few “pin holes” (not from a pin but where a thread pushed aside to let light pass) through the canvas where something pressed against the back. (Not noticeable unless you put a bright light behind painting.) I do not see any tears and the canvas does still look and feels healthy. The oil paint is stable with no noticeable paint loss or craquelure. It has a gloss varnish and has very light surface dust. The frame looks original but was repainted at some point a golden coffee color with a glossy dark brown trim. Looks like artist made stretcher bars that were cut so they do not touch the front of the canvas. On the back written in pencil it looks something like, 'Kayante L juacil.' Frame measures 20-1/2 inches wide and 23-3/4 inches tall. If you need more pictures please ask and I will email them to you.
