A young man smoking a cigar with a beige cap. Could be a paper boy or day laborer. This is a nice antique Tobacco jar. It is incised with the numbers 7667 and 78 on the bottom. I am not sure if this is the date 1878. This lovely Jar has a couple manufacture flaws. There is one on the right ear (pinched) and one on the nose (rough). These imperfections are under the original glaze. He is in great condition for his age. He has a tiny chip on back of right ear and a couple on bottom edge from light use. It is rare to find these that are not all chipped up around the lid and opening. Please note, all bright white in pictures are reflections from the camera and not chips or cracks. Please refer to all photos. If you need anymore photos please let me know. This man measures 4-7/8 inches tall with lid and 3-1/2 inches wide. Tobacco jars have been used since the 1700s to store pipe tobacco. In the mid-19th century, figural tobacco jars shaped like people or animals were very popular.
