This is the John Howard Payne Memorial Home Sweet Home & Old Windmill in East Hampton New York. He was the 19th century author of the song Home sweet home. This painting was painted in 1957 by Erna Evans more then likely from a post card of his home. The oil painting on stretched canvas is in great condition with no holes, scratches or water damage. The painting measures 16 inches tall and 20 inches wide. In a golden frame that measures 22-1/4 inches tall and 26 inches wide. Frame looks nice but does have light paint loss around the edges. Titled and signed on verso tag.
From her Obituary. Mrs. Evans was born June 13, 1912, in Brooklyn, N.Y., to Frederick H. and Alva G. (Shepherd) Longton. She was a member of the Massapequa Women’s Club and the Unqua Corinthian Yacht Club, both of Amityville, N Y. Mrs. Evans attended the United Methodist Church in Amityville. She was married March 29, 1937, in Brooklyn to Whiting Evans, who died March 5,1977. Died in Colorado Springs in 1987.
