L M Ainsworth Oil Painting On Board Signed by Artist, Vermont State House in winter - Capital Building, Montpelier, Vermont, USA. Very nice painting of the capital building covered in snow. The painting has no scratches or restorations. It measures 12 inches tall and 16 inches wide. The original wood frame measures 15-1/4 inches tall and 19-1/4 inches wide. Looks to have been painted in the 1950’s. The painting does have some surface dirt. If you would like new back paper please request it when you purchase and I will have it put on free of charge. Signed lower left corner, “L. M. Ainsworth.” I do not know anything about this artist.
Primary Architect: Thomas Silloway
Vermont is one of several domed, Greek Revival-style capitols in the country, built to reflect the national prototype -- in the hopes of fostering similar levels of esteem for state government. But it is arguably the fairest of them all despite being the smallest, thanks in no small part to its backdrop of wooded hills. It is one of only ten capitols to be topped with real gold leaf, and also sports a statue of Ceres, the Roman goddess of grain.
