Figural couple in meadow by The Star and Garter Hotel at Richmond Hill on the Thames. The hotel closed in 1906 and was donated to Queen Mary for a home for paralyzed and permanently disabled soldiers. The hotel was demolished in 1919 to make a new building better equipped to house the soldiers. This clean oil painting on art board is signed lower left by listed English artist, J Lewis. The painting is still in good condition. It has light paint loss along the right side from an old frame rub. I also see a few touchups which is normal for a painting from the late 19th century. The touchups are not noticeable with a naked eye. I examine all my paintings with an eye scope. Painting measures about 10-3/4 inches tall and 13 inches wide. The frame measures 16-1/2 inches tall and 18-3/4 inches wide. If you would like a new back paper, please let me know and I will have one put on free of charge.
