This is a vintage cloisonné thimble my Grandma used for many years. She bought it while on an Ambassadors photo trip to China in the 1970’s. She was one of the first westerners allowed into China to make a photo journal of the land and cultures. I remember her stories of the mini bus she traveled in always had armed military guards wherever they went. She had mentioned it was most likely to prevent them from running freely into the country rather then to keep them safe. Anyway, this thimble, I remember as a small boy seeing her stitch clothing when I was bad enough to tear a hole in my britches. It is still in great condition with no chips cracks or dents. The brass has a dark patina from age with spots of shiny where it was used. Measuring 1 inch tall and 3/4 inch wide. The hole inside measures 1/2 inch wide.
