A Native American Indian woman is holding her baby. She is draped with a colorful Indian blanket. This Batik painting measures inside the mat 8 inches wide by 12 inches tall. I see no holes, water damage or tears. This is not a limited edition print. Signed by the artist lower right, D Smith. The wood frame measures 13 inches wide and 17 inches tall. On the verso is the Evergreen Colorado artist ink stamp. If you would like a back paper please let me know and I will have one put on free of charge.
Batik painting are difficult to achieve a clear high quality as this is. Each color was painted individually with the rest of the picture waxed over so the dye or paint does not run through the fabric. Then the wax is stripped off and reapplied for the next color. This is a hard to find original batik painting on fabric. This artist was known to make 150 to 500 limited edition prints from her batik paintings. This one is the original she would have made the prints from. I have not seen a print of this one so I do not know if there was an edition run.
