This is a folk art pointillism pen and ink and oil painting of farmers on a large hay wagon pulled by horses going back to the ranch before a storm hits. The painting has no scratches, holes, tears or water damage. I do see a couple tiny spots of foxing but are very hard to see due to the fine ink details. This is signed by the artist in the lower right, EL. The painting on artist paper measures 14 inches wide and 17 inches tall. It is attached to a black mat that measures 16 x 20 inches. Could use a new mat. This is sold without a frame.
Ernest Lucas was a Texas artist who was a previous manager of the Miller Hat Company in Corsicana, TX. He retired in the early 1960’s around Cedar Creek Lake area and was dedicated to his love of oil painting. Being retired he traveled the USA painting different scenes from around the country in a fauvism painting style. Then he had a massive stroke and he lost his ability to paint, However, this did not stop him from his love of art. He regained use of his left arm and hand and began to use a pen to pen pointillism pictures. The pointillism paintings would take him many days to accomplish each picture. (From a Corsicana Daily Sun Article.) Speaking to the town people they absolutely loved him and admired his work. He was friendly and well known in his community. His family after time put part of his collection up for sale. I was fortunate enough to be in the right place at the right time. I wish I could have bought every piece. I have several pieces from his collection listed. Oil paintings before his Stroke and pen and mixed media pointillisms.
