After a visit to the town of Sevres, France, this was brought back as souvenir. I am not sure how this was acquired but this is a factory second due to flaws. This was rejected due to a bubble flaw in the glaze and a chip on one side and did not earn its factory stamp on the back. I do not know which factory in Sevres. All the details of this are hand painted and it is signed by the artist, Moreau. Hand titled on the back, Bataille de Villa-viciosa. The Battle of Villaviciosa was a battle between the Spanish king and Austria. I see some light wear on some of the gold and some paint loss on around the center picture. The 2 chips on the back are smaller then 1/4 inch in size. The verso shows discoloration from the kiln firing. The plate measures 9-1/4 inches diameter. Still a beautiful plate with a picture of the raging battle. The three small pictures around the edges are different military barracks from a stone fortification, a fortified bridge to a tent city. The main picture is the troops at war. The hand painted gilding has olive branches and designs burnished around the three small pictures. If it weren’t for the flaws this would be an awesome plate. This would look great in a curio or display case.
