Two adorable black bears have an encounter with a porcupine in a tree. The colors of the trees and brush with the blue hills in the background tell us it is early fall. Painted on white birch tree bark in the 1940’s -1950’s. Signed by the artist lower left, “Lucille Shurtliff.” The bark measures about 10-1/2 inches wide and 9 inches tall. In its original frame it measures 15 inches wide and 12 inches tall. I see some flaking of the bark and it is not centered on its mat having dropped down. The back paper has been torn and someone patched it back together with tape. If you would like new back paper please let me know and I will have it changed free of charge.
