Measurements: 2" x 1 1/4" - WEIGHT: 15.3 grams including stone - SODALITE Cabochon Oval: 1 X 5/8"
Dating to the 1940's - although clearly in the earlier Arts and Crafts Movement style. Beautifully crafted and imagined.
Designed with an open "C" catch. Clearly marked as sterling silver "925." Even though the C catch is consistent with pre 1920's jewelry, the numeric sterling mark is what indicates that the brooch is actually later than the Arts and Crafts Movement. An ACM brooch would be marked simply as "sterling."
Sodalite is very similar to lapis lazuli: dark cobalt blue, but with white occlusions.
Photographed unpolished to show the original patina.
