EXTERIOR Width x Length: 12 inches x 15 inches not including corner extensions of various dimensions (from 2 inches x 1 1/2 inches to
1 1/2 inches x 1 1/2 inches) - INTERIOR Width x Length: 10 inches x 11 3/4 inches. Please note that odd dimensions are often characteristic of handmade folk art. Also characteristic of folk art is the odd little dress buckle used as a hanger for the frame instead of a wire hanger.
Some damages, but the only damage that might be considered a true damage is what appears to be a repaired break to the top, left extension which was reattached on an angle. However, looking at photographs of the back of the frame, this odd angle may be original to the construction. Look closely and enlarge the last photo of that corner, then decide for yourself. Also, very minor paint wear.
But the hand crafted oddity of this frame continues to what remains of the paper backing which is in French and refers to a bakery named "Vanille" which created "Feine" confections. AND the wonderful, but the mostly illegible pencil writing along the interior top of the frame. Enlarge the third and sixth photos. Perhaps you can decipher the writing.
I believe that the frame dates to the early 1900's.
