Measurements: INTERIOR: 4 1/4" x 6" x 1/4" - OUTSIDE: 5/14" x 8" (including crest) x 1/2" - STAND ARM: 5" - WEIGHT: 15 1/2 ounces
This frame is made of cast brass. The casting is particularly fine, without sharp edges or ragged bits of casting material. Also, the details are clear and deep. Particularly interesting are the very three dimensional details of the crest: a pair of love birds sitting on a crossed perch of a torch and a bundle of kindling. Ribbons and roses complete the crest.
This type of frame was meant for table display using the stand arm as well as wall display using the jump ring attached to the back of the frame just above the hinge of the arm.
The back of the frame slides down in order to insert photos and cover glass.
The photo which came with the frame is a cyanotype image dating from the late 1800's - the same date as the frame itself.
No damages or repairs. Photographed unpolished, "as found."
