Jacqmar of London was founded in the late 1930s by Jack and Mary Lyons. The company originally was a supplier of fine silks to the Paris couture houses. The height of popularity for Jacqmar scarves was during then 1950's -1960's. Best Known for their whimsical designs (for example, the scarf listed here), political designs, designs showing the best of London (opera house, etc), humorous themes, etc.
No matter the topic, the graphics were detailed and clear, beautifully printed on various fabrics - silk and silk blends were their speciality.
This scarf is signed "Jacqmar," showing a circular design of dogs on their leashes. The legend written in the border translates to "Follow me young man."
The last photo shows the design to be printed clearly on one side, with a "shadow" design coming through the back.
The fabric is slightly nubby (photo #2) - a very soft silk and cotton blend.
No stains, odors, or rips.
More of these fabulous scarves will be listed throughout the coming months.
