ROUND TOP: 8mm - PIN STEM: 5.5 inches - WEIGHT: 2.8 grams
To fully appreciate this tiny "jewel," please take the time to enlarge all of the photos.
The top of the hatpin is made of an 8mm bone ball. The bone has aged beautifully to a soft beige. But the truly amazing detail of the hatpin is that the midsection is inlayed with a row of green glass beads; set between two rows of silver chain. The very top of the hatpin is set with a single white glass bead surrounded by turquoise enamel. This design is very labor intensive.
Look closely at the glass beads. They are not uniform in shape or hole size leading me to believe the beads might have been Native American trade beads.
No damages or repairs.
I am dating the hatpin to the late Victorian era/early Edwardian.
