An unusually large social fraternity brooch; possibly part of a belt buckle conversion. (FYI: the extra silver from the removed buckle finding can easily be smoothed off by any jeweler.)
Produced by the American silver company: Unger Brothers in the late 1800's. Hallmarked with the Unger Brothers logo used by Unger Brothers from 1872 to 1914.
The front of the brooch is decorated with an intricately machined design of joined, wave lines.
Among the best-known members of the fraternity are Benjamin Harrison, the 23rd President of the United States, Adlai Stevenson I, the 23rd Vice President of the United States, Baseball Hall of Fame member Lou Gehrig, actor Burt Reynolds, architect Frank Lloyd Wright, Neil Armstrong the first man to walk on the moon, R. Scott Morris the former CEO of the Boston Options Exchange, and John S. McCain Sr., U.S. Navy Admiral and grandfather of John McCain.
