Antonio Pineda worked in Taxco, Mexico creating bold Modernist designs using high grade silver and various semi precious stones. He apprenticed with William Spratling and then opened his own very successful shop in the 1941. Antonio's exceptional Mid Century Modernism designs continue to have a wide audience.
Although I have bought and sold Mexican silver jewelry for many years, I have not seen this belt buckle design before. The silver content is 970. The black stones are onyx. The piece is clearly marked with Antonio's triangular hallmark as well as his eagle mark.
The leather belt appears to have been made specifically for this buckle. It attaches to the buckle using a pair of snaps. And can be sized in the traditional way of adding more holes.
Very fine and undamaged vintage condition. P.S. I prefer not to polish my vintage jewelry. Therefore, this buckle was photographed in original vintage condition, but will polish up beautifully - guaranteed.
