Measurements: 2" x 3/4" - WEIGHT: 6.2 grams
To my eye, this brooch is more of an ostrich plume than a traditional bird feather because of the gently curling end feathers. The surface of the brooch is very detailed clearly showing all of the inner vanes and the central shaft.
I would date the brooch to the 1940's except for the style of lever safety closure which was only in use briefly around 1895 according to the book: "Estate Jewelry 1760-1960" by D. S. Cinamon. (enlarge photo #3)
Definitely beautifully crafted with simple elegance; unisex and suitable to most age groups and occasions.
