This is a little jewel of a British Battersea box: enamel over brass with great age patina.
The bottom of the box is a pale, baby blue enamel. The interior of the box is white enamel. The slightly domed top of the box is a hand painted, multi color design of birds within a bower of trees guarding their nest of three blue eggs.a
Because of the early 1800's age of the box and the fact that enamel is fired glass, there are several minor damages: the moriage border on the left is missing one dot and two dots are partially crushed. The interior of the box shows a bit of crazing. The front bottom edge below the clasp shows an almost invisible chip repair. The price reflects the enamel issues.
