Vintage clown Christmas ornaments were made in a wide variety of styles but this one, playing a cello or base, I haven't seen before. The glass ornament is 4-3/4 inches long and has an unmarked metal cap which doesn't look original. It likely dates to 1950s West Germany.
The clown wears a bright blue and yellow suite with white mica at neck and sleeve ruffles. The cello is red. His face and hands are painted in opaque flesh tone with hand painted eyes and appropriate clown face paint. Even the fingers are clearly defined with red painted lines, it's very well done. There is a some moderate wear to the white mica glitter and very slight wear to the red and blue paint.
