A scarce boxed set of six German plastic diorama indent Christmas ornaments with scenes and figures inside. The 2-1/4 inch diameter half-circle ornaments are bordered at the rims with carved-effect filigree frames. The plastic figures or scenes inside are angels, Santa Claus, church village scene, Nativity scene, and a snowbaby type child with muff.
The backs are marked Germany. Two ornaments are missing the tiny plastic top loops for hanging, but you'll be able to tie a cord or thin wire around the little spikes at the tops. The interior plastic figures were attached to small round sponge pieces and glued in place. The sponges dried out over the years, causing most of the centers to become detached. I did not re-glue them, preferring to let the buyer choose what adhesive to use. The plain manila box and lid have old tape, a penciled price, and the stamped stock number 2530/62. The ornament set dates to the late 1930s, though it may not have been imported to the US until the close of World War II (the lack of West or Western Germany markings points to pre-war manufacture).
