I purchased this vintage drum and rattle at an estate auction. They were advertised as "Indian" (Native American) but I can't verify their origin so I'm using the term "style", though I believe they are Native American.
The hoop drum is 10 inches diameter by just under 2-1/2" deep. The covers are stiff rawhide skin or hide, I'm not sure whether they're deer or elk. The lacing and handle are sinew. There is a decorative tie at the side made of soft rawhide with two amber colored glass beads. The hoop is lightweight wood, I'm not sure what type. There is some lightening at the centers from drumstick use and signs of age wear but no damage.
The hand made rattle is quite primitive looking, made with a sharpened tree branch stick and a round gourd. It's 17 inches high overall, the gourd is 4-1/2 inches wide.
