This handpainted suede leather handkerchief box was a souvenir from Yellowstone Park. The padded lid is decorated with the charming hugging bear mascot, which was the unofficial Yellowstone logo into the 1930s. The poor sad-looking cub is chained to a tree near a sign that reads "No Hugging Allowed in the Park" with the phrase "All I Was Hug A Little" printed below. The word Handkerchiefs is stenciled above the painted scene, and Yellowstone Park is below it.
The box measures 6-1/4 inches square by 1-3/4" deep. The inside of the lid is lined in faded red paper, the box bottom is lined in red wool felt. The box sides and bottom are covered in textured brown leatherette paper. There's a little wear to the bottom edges as shown, otherwise it's in very good condition. Ideal for both men or women.
