A wonderful majolica style antique figural incense burner or smoker in the form of a kneeling Chinese man holding a bowl or basket, his wide open mouth goes all the way through. Made of heavy reddish tan earthenware clay, the figure is well formed and skillfully painted (possibly with lead glazed paint).
The figurine is about 5-1/4 inches high by the same in length from the edge of the bowl to the back of the foot. There are no marks or indication of origin. It looks like the head has been repaired, noticeable only on close examination and reflected in the price.
