This 11-1/2 inch blown glass figural angel Christmas tree topper ornament was made in Italy in the 1960s. The angel stands atop a satin finish ivory color ball with glittered starbursts and a shooting star. She has an elongated bell shape body and annealed glass wings. Her pixie-waif style glittery yellow hair is cut short and wispy, and she has large blue eyes with a tiny red open mouth. The dress is decorated with painted gold dots and a panel of clear bead glitter or Venetian Dew down the front.
The glass wings are uncommon - foil, paper, and plastic wings were used in later versions of Italian glass angels. Being nearly 50 years old, the angel does show some signs of wear though there are no chip or breaks to the glass. The inner silvering is badly worn at the bottom opening. There are some paint scuffs or scratches to the finish of the angel's dress and the round sphere. The very top of her head has a small area of paint loss, though this will never be seen when she's in position on the tree top. The angel comes with her original plain manila box bottom marked Made In Italy and numbered 524. The box lid is not present.
