This pair of Depression era black amethyst glass double candlesticks was made by the L.E. Smith Glass Company in the 1920s. The pattern name is Mount Pleasant, also known as Double Shield. Each is decorated with hand painted flowers and leaves on both sides of the base. I think the flowers were originally metallic gold, age has turned the color somewhat silvery. It's unusual to see decoration on these candle holders.
The glass is true black amethyst - hold it up to the light and you'll see the gorgeous deep purple color. The candlesticks are 6-3/8" wide by 4-1/2 inches high. One is perfect, the other has two minor mold flaws on the rims of the candle cups - tiny popped bubbles at the edge of the glass, resulting in barely-seen flakes or roughness, one on each rim. Otherwise the candle holders are in excellent vintage condition.
