This pretty carved carnelian shell cameo was found in my Grandmother's jewelry box when she passed. I'm not at expert at dating jewelry, but I'm pretty sure it's from the 1930s, possibly 1940s.
The carved Grecian style lady faces right. She has upswept hair and sharp, straight nose and chin. The cameo measures 1-1/4 inches high by one inch wide. It has a clasp pin to wear as a brooch and a drop down bail to wear as a pendant. The frame is 800 silver with a thin gold braid. It's marked 800 on the lower back of the frame. There are three short, very fine stress lines - 2 to the left of the lady's neck, one just above her nose. These are common with older shell cameos and are noticeable only with magnification or when held to strong light.
