Such a pretty work to the plaited white hair in this one, and know it was a very old person. Beautifully done, it's preserved as a token of love and mourning within this mid-Victorian brooch. Tests 10k gold. The work is elegant, the kiln-fired black enamel is superb. I love these old things! Cluster a group of them on a lapel of your jacket for a fun evening out and the conversation kicks! I have a friend who has collect quite a few and had a jeweler drill for gold ring to attach them to a fabulous charm bracelet. She's working now on a matching necklace. Even just collected in display - they're so precious.
Very good condition for age and type, the up side is lovely. A thick oval of glass is still clear and shows off the braid of hair like a basket weave of memories. A scratch or two on the black, not much, no chips. There is a tiny chip and a couple of scrapes to the cover glass - this one has been lovingly worn, a lot. There are some surface abrasion to the backside from wear, and perhaps the hinged in and c-clamp have been worked in a silver mount and in rose gold, or added. Wears beautifully and is 10k gold. It is 1" x 5/8" elaborately scrolled border work.
Our photos are large and clear. We do expect our customers to review them all, evaluate the item based on both our description and our images. Thanks for all the compliments - we love what we do! Antiques & Uncommon Treasure - all the best, all the time!
