Elegant antique French hallmarked sterling silver 5.25" sugar tongs with an ornate Art Nouveau style pattern consisting of sinuous flowers & foliage and seashell shapes accenting the lion's paw pincer ends! Something that doesn't immediately come to mind when thinking of a fine antique sterling silver tea & coffee set but, as you can imagine, these are pretty much a must have if you're using cubes in your sugar caddy. Nothing quite so elegant as the details, right? One side bears the French Minerve or Minerva hallmark, the tiny number "1" within that mark means it's in .950 silver (95% pure and higher than the .925 standard for "sterling" silver). The silversmith mark is most likely for Emile Taburet, 3 rue Pasquier, Paris circa 1868-1881. One of just a few that we currently have available so, if this one isn't quite a match for your existing service, be sure to browse some while you're with us. Thanks!
Very good to excellent condition. A claw is missing from one side lion's paw, outside toe, I can't tell but it looks like an original flaw from the casting rather than damage. Very light surface scuffs possible but no bends, damage or repairs to note. See pictures for weight and measurements.
