Elegant antique French sterling silver chocolate, coffee or tea cup & saucer set with palmette festooned bands on each, scrolled acanthus handle on the cup and both in wonderful condition! Each with a French Minerve #1 hallmark, from that we know this beautiful cup and saucer are guaranteed to be of at least .950/1000 silver content so just above the .925 standard for "sterling" silver. Larger than the typical 19th century China tea cup, rare since the French weren't really known as being tea drinkers so this one was most assuredly meant for chocolate or tea, perhaps bouillon service. Perfect for your own enjoyment, or to give as a special gift. I've shown the silversmith's mark clearly and it's for Vaneste & Delettrez, Paris circa 1883-1888. Measurements noted on photos, but the set is perfect to enjoy your morning coffee in sheer opulence.
Very good to excellent condition, I find no dents to mention and no flaws other than some very light surface scuffs. Thick and heavy really, both pieces have a total weight of 7.8 troy ounces or 242 grams. See pictures for measurements.
