I've bought lots of these over the years, and most of them we've sold again. I've got a few now that I'm going to use. My plan is to build them into cabinetry renovation in kitchen, and also to have a 4" depth box frame backing made for one that can be wall-mounted as a cabinet in bathroom, mirror back and lined with glass shelves, to use as as upscale medicine cabinet. Might recess the cabinet part into the wall instead. You'll surely come up with great decorator ideas of your own. But in fact, these hang on a wall beautifully just as the fine art and sculpture they are.
Heavy old forest growth European oak, 25 1/8" x 22 1/4" and a carving depth of about 2.75" in deep bas relief: a lovely hunt themed carved game hen or bird surrounded by an elaborate foliate oval with cattail on the left, fence segment on the right and with a 7/8" thick solid wood carved outer framing.
Ready-to-hang or you might want to build into your cabinetry; use as a door for a wall cabinet for medicine chest use in a bathroom; or put in a frame to display as the work of art it truly is. It was once a door to a large cabinet or bar, but does not have the lock hardware or hinge portions. Photos tell all. If there's a chip, I haven't yet located it so look closely. Fabulous for a wall ornament in a Country French kitchen or den. Actually, it would even look great in any setting where fine architectural salvage pieces might add to the warmth and aesthetic, even modern. This panel dates 19th century, c. 1830-80s.
Very good condition, I see no chips at all though there is a visible age or drying crack near the center (vertical, most visible on the bottom below the oval figural center). The carving on this plaque is truly magnificent! A personal favorite. See pictures for all measurements.
