Rare large antique Victorian era 13 5/8" x 13" flatware or cashmeres storage chest, box with ornate marquetry inlaid facade & top, original brass side handles and lift-out inner tray! Not definitively Tunbridge Ware, the inlay on this chest is in a bit larger segments than you would expect from Tunbridge but it's alluring nonetheless. Rare larger size, I'm not sure what it would originally have been intended for but would make a great box to store a fine set of antique sterling silver flatware or just some lace or fabrics as was common. Brass cartouche in the lid and recessed folding handles on the sides, the interior in finished wood veneers with a tray fitted in the top and storage beneath. We've seen legged bases made for these larger boxes and they make fabulous side or accent tables.
Good to very good condition. Just as you see it, a small veneer chip here and there and some darkening or marking to the wood finish in areas. There is also some chipping at the corners of the brass cartouche as if someone tried to pry it out or replace it. It does have a working lock with key. See pictures for all measurements.
