The rare and original French Empire (likely 2nd Empire period) Bouillotte Lamp you see here is one I've owned for many years. One of two I'll be listing today, sold separately. I used them for a long time and then they've been relaxing in our warehouse for a long time waiting for me to decide if I could ever part with them. This one is just gorgeous, though I think is 2nd Empire, for the revival of French Empire style during the reign of Napoleon III, and shows evidence of having an early adaptation to electric, as well (see the remnant of an old electrical wire). . A superb example of why these remain so popular, if one can find an old original. Look it over. It is large in size at 24 3/8" in height. The shade is nearly 14.5" x 11" oval in shape, (measurements are all on the photos. Grypon, (griffin) heads on the 2 candle branches, the rein finial at top, and the old arrow that tightens to raise and lower the shade to desired height. The heavy case bronze lamp and tin/tole shade combine to nearly 7 lbs, lovely Empire motif throughout to include the wreath on the toleware shade. A deep Napoleon forest green on the dore bronze is the perfect look. Look for the other older one, sold separately.
Very good to excellent condition for age and type. No breaks, no repairs, no loss to any of the hardware. The lamp is heavy old cast bronze and weighs about 6 lbs for shipping. Shade is tin, tole or hand painted. The old tole painting is in very nice form with very little loss. No dents or bad spots to consider, even on the old shade. All the hardware is complete and it's sturdy and ready for use and enjoyment. We'd date this one c.1860-80. We'd stick with the candle arrangement, but you could have this one wired if you should desire.
