Lovely little antique Victorian era 'quilted' mother of pearl or abalone marquetry covered 3 7/8" jewelry casket, a delightful shimmering beauty! I'm still trying to get our Ashley more involved in the business and this is one of her more recent treasures. Of course, she wanted to keep it to fill with a few of her favorite things (she's always been a collector of some small thing or another). Diamond shaped panels of shimmering abalone or mother of pearl covering the entire piece, canted edges on the lid and the original interior is intact, a bit tattered but intact. Wonderful decorative accents or, as she would do, hide one of your treasured smalls inside.
Good-very good condition, age considered. There are a few small corner chips to the pearl veneers, all visible in the images. As noted, the interior is original but quite aged, nearly threadbare on the bottom and there are two small sections of the inner rim veneer missing near the hinges (rear corners). There are holes in the bottom indicating that it would originally have small turned or steel ball feet. See pictures for all measurements.
