Antique Black Forest Plaque, Eagle, 18" x 16.5" Hand Carved & Gorgeous!
Carved of solid wood, plaque is 18" x 16.75" and is .5" and deeper, with 3" depth at deepest, this exquisitely crafted carving of an eagle is ready to hang as it is, or to build into your cabinetry or frame as art. A superb old one, c.1850-1880s, it exhibits exceptionally fine craftsmanship, and is an Animalier movement stand-out. The placement of the eagle in a natural setting that includes fabulous vegetation, leaves, etc., will thrill for centuries to come. I love the old carvings, and this one is exceptional. Whether for an office, a Country French or Cabin, Lodge decor, it's a must have. We often stock Fruits of the Hunt themed carvings, but this one is a living and majestic eagle and we're sure you'll want it. Imagine carving this one (or commissioning it) today. It would be 5 times our price. Don't you just love antiques!
Very good to excellent throughout, for age and type. This one might have been the inset of a large buffet or hutch cabinet door, salvaged, and we only wish we had the mate to it, if so. I find no chips to note, though I will say there might be one to leaf tip here or there that isn't serious enough to detract - look the photos over closely, please. Nothing on the overall composition stands out at all, and there are no splits or cracks, either. A superb and large panel. Heavy solid dense old forest growth wood, not light like later woods. Would be so wonderful made up as cabinet door to a medicine chest in a master bath, wouldn't it.
Our photos are large and clear. We do expect our customers to review them all, evaluate the item based on both our description and our images. Thanks for all the compliments - we love what we do! Antiques & Uncommon Treasure - all the best, all the time!
