Very large 19th century hand carved Black Forest spill vase, perfect size now to use as a vase for silk flowers (please don't use water in the wooden recess without using a liner) or fresh arrangements if you use liner. The old centerpiece is a full 12" tall, with a large base of 10" x 7". There are 2 open centers into which you can work arrangements, or you might wish to use it for cigars/matches, or for candy canes and stick mints over the Holidays. You'll find the perfect way to integrate it into your decor. The pair of resting mountain goats are wonderful on this one and are large and nicely preserved. A nanny goat and her kid. I'm sure when it was initially carved, it would have had a mate with the billy goat on the other one.
Very good condition for age and type, it has one curved horn missing on the mamma goat, which you can easily see and evaluate. You'll have an easy time crafting a restoration one if you're a bit handy, or can have a wood worker do it for you if you want perfection. There is also one tip of bark from the upright log epergne or opening that has a chip. One could improve it well with a bit of Dremmel time or a good carver's pocket knife. Fine 19th century Animalier attention to detail in anatomy, and a sculpture you'll love for generations. We'd date this one c.1850-1880s.
