Magnificent & RARE matched pair of 23" antique Victorian era 23" wall plaques, "Fruits of the Hunt" motif with detailed stag or deer, game hen, fox and hare carvings and pierced or reticulated surround of oak leaves & vines! The carvings don't just stop at the figures, all round them toward the rear or outside of each are a mixture of foliage, vines and hunting items like a French horn or bugle, rifle and powder horn! Superb detail to the figures, each with a huge deer or stag figure at the center, both with what appear to be their original removable horns or antlers. One plaque has two game birds flanking the center deer, the other with the more rare fox and hare figures. These may have originally been mounted on the larger back carved wood panel, as you often see with these Black Forest hunt plaques. If so, they're truly magnificent just as they are now, allowing your wall color to accentuate all of the intricate pierced areas rather than getting a little lost against a wood panel... Exquisite decorative wall hangings! They would also be superb mounted to the fronts of your custom furniture or cabinetry doors, you decide.
Very good to excellent condition. A few small nips but no large chips, breaks or repairs to note. As noted, they likely originally were mounted on solid rear wood panels. The horns are removable but I'd likely glue them in or use earthquake wax to ensure they don't fall off and get lost. See pictures for measurements.
