Elegant antique French sterling silver & intaglio etched or engraved 8 3/8" plate PAIR, perfect as champagne or wine bottle coasters, caviar under plates! Thick, heavy glass with a wheel cut starburst pattern in the center and the raised borders with a lovely intaglio etched floral & foliate pattern. Laurel garland in French hallmarked sterling silver bordering each plate, the icing on the cake so to speak :). Just a pair of dessert sized plates so perfect for you and your significant other, spoil yourselves! OR, they're great as under plates or coasters supporting an ice chip & caviar filled dish or perhaps the larger magnum sized bottle of wine or champagne! Use your imagination. Both rims bear the French Minerve or Minerva hallmark, the tiny number "1" within those marks means they're in .950 silver (95% pure and higher than the .925 standard for "sterling" silver). The silversmith marks are for Victor Leneuf, Paris circa 1885 to early 1900s.
Very good condition. There are two tiny dimples in the sterling band rim, something that should be easy to flatten out and we'll see if our silversmith can. A slight bit of scuffing to the glass bases but, otherwise in superb shape. No rim chips, no cracks.
