Delightful & rare antique Italian Renaissance style hand carved 17.5" vanity or boudoir mirror with charming large cherub or putti figure, ornate foliate accents and original thick beveled mirror! Circa mid 1800s, this one is simply fabulous! A nice larger piece, the stand itself is beautifully hand carved in solid wood, the beveled mirror set just into the facade and surrounded by an array of small vines & foliage and with the child-like cherub figure at the top. A wonderful decorative piece, sure to catch the eye with that finely detailed carving, warm aged patina to the wood and cherubic little figure. I'm unsure of the wood but it is more heavy and has the look of walnut, definitely not the lighter linden that was often used in Black Forest carvings. In any event, an exceptional hand sculpted work of art and guaranteed to please!
Very good condition. There are a few chipped leaf tips, the most visible in the bunch held aloft by the cherub figure. There is also a glued repair to the branch to the right of the figure, some glue visible but could be cleaned up a bit for sure and I'll see what we can do with it before sending out. There is also an old repaired break to the left leg, just where it meets the mirror frame. A few small spots on the mirror, dark age spots to the silvering. See pictures for all measurements.
