Exceptional & rare large antique French Louis Philippe to Napoleon III era Dore bronze & faux tortoise shell 8 5/8" desk or jewelry casket with jeweled accents, ornate framework, figural hand painted medallions & working lock with key! Isn't this one spectacular! Not only does it have a rare impressive size but the visual appeal is superb! Oval in shape with an ornate gilded bronze ormolu framework & ball feet, machined "strap" accents along the sides & top with emerald green glass cabochon 'jewels' and large medallions with hand painted bird figures! Lovely. No detail overlooked with this one, even the old skeleton key is beautifully ornate. The interior lined in what looks like taupe moire silk, also in fine shape. A museum quality piece, don't miss it!
Very good condition. Some crazing to the faux tortoise shell and you can see where pieces/sections were joined to complete the oval sides but no chipping or loss that I can see. There is a crescent shaped crack to the mottled veneer on the lid, right side. One green glass cabochon is missing from the back, I've been keeping my eyes open for a replacement but haven't really had time to look too hard. I'm sure one could be found relatively easily. As noted, the lock & key do work. A tiny bend or dent or two possible but, just as you see it really. Superb! See pictures for all measurements.
