Fabulous & rare antique French Napoleon III era NeoClassical or Empire Revival style 15 1/8" candelabra pair, each in heavy solid bronze with gilt or Dore accenting, lion's paw feet & hand painted porcelain plaques or inserts with armorial, medicinal & figural themes! Aren't these gorgeous! Aged bronze overall with stunning gilded accents throughout. Both the tops and bases have porcelain inserts, the upper ovals with female busts on pillars, laurel branches and one with a claret jug, the other with goblet. All of the plaques are colorful with mat black surroundings. The lower plaque shows an armorial Romanesque helmet, sword & spear over laurel branches, the other with an urn, staff, goblet and snake or serpent. They do add color, a bit of vibrant visual appeal but the most alluring aspect of these, in my opinion, is the richly gilded accenting on the warm aged bronze patina! Simply a magnificent pair! Overly heavy, too, each weighing over 4 lbs!
Very good condition. The top of one is slightly misshapen and there are a few spots of wax here & there but both are in otherwise superb shape. Just gorgeous! See pictures for all measurements.
