One of those splendid little hand enameled glass boxes I've always loved - this one is just in from France, and is very likely French made, but there were also boxes similarly made by the Master glassmakers in Bohemian regions, and in particular by Moser artisans. I am not entirely positive this is not Moser. You Moser experts will tell me what you think. The thick hand made (mouth blown, mold formed) glass is a champagne color - very beautiful. It is without chip or crack, though I can see what appears to be very light surface abrasion on the top. It shows up far more in our enlarged and lighted digital images than it does on the box and is easily missed otherwise, or in person. A blue-sashed little girl frolics there on the lid, points to the flowers growing along her path. The enamel work is fabulous on this one, very charming and surprisingly undamaged by time. The garlands of flowers that drape the sides repeat the theme and give me to believe this was a box made for a child. The older French opaline boxes usually had locks and were, in fact, sugar chests. This is not that type, but has a pressure clasp closure that holds it tightly closed. Raised on brass feet and with brass framing, it's sure to please that special girl, no matter how old she is. LOVE the color of the glass in this one!
Very good to excellent without any chips or cracks, no hairlines or loss - a tiny few surface scratches that show up more in our lighted digital photos than they do in normal size and light, but you'll see them well for evaluation here. A wonderful box!
