In the original early 1800s frame, wood with applied gesso/plaster and a gilt finish that still is brilliant, this superb original watercolor portrait is just stunning. Watercolor or perhaps gouache, done on card or heavy watercolor paper, it shows a beautiful young woman at her loom or embroidery, giving us a sense of the fine clothing, hair styles and interiors of early 1800s elite. Likely English, but purchased by us in France, this one hangs on my living room walls even now. Isn't she just a stunning painting! And sized to be an elegant addition to your doll house (Bru or similar) walls, or your own walls, either one. The outer frame is 11.5" x 9.5" and is 1.75" in depth. The portrait aperture shows 5.75" x 4.5". I do not find a signature, but perhaps there is one covered by that paper mat, or on backside. We did not open it up to check.
Very good to excellent condition, preserved under the original cover glass and in the original frame, which is a valuable antique on its own, as well. The painting is in gouache or more likely watercolor, done on card or paper. I see no damage other than very light flaws to the painted surface, visible in our images. The frame remains in very good condition, please refer to our images for the well-aged frame and painting.
