Charming antique Victorian era Black Forest hand carved match stand, a 7.5" hooded forest gnome figure with woven match holding basket on his back and wonderful visual & decorative appeal! One of three forest 'gnome' figural Black Forest pieces that we're adding today so be sure to browse a bit while you're with us! If you're not a collector already, we have more than enough to start or even fully stock your own collection :). A fine Anri style piece here. Surely meant to be simply a match or matchbox holder, the rectangular pack perfect for wooden matches and would probably hold the standard sized match boxes. The figure is depicted in a hiking position, a pipe bowl in his left hand and probably would have had a walking stick in his right (now it's great for holding a match). Great for the Black Forest and Anri collectors. Enjoy!
Very good condition. A small nip or two possible, it looks like the stem of his pipe is either missing or was never there. As noted, he likely held a walking stick with his right hand, easily replaced if you wish...but I really like the look when he's holding a match :), don't you. See pictures for measurements.
