You know, accent pillows truly lend a particular elegance to a well-appointed room, and none so much so as the ones made up from ancient fragments of French tapestries like Gobelin, Aubusson, Verdure from the 16th - 19th century, or fine Victorian needlepoints and beadwork panels such as ones I'm listing this week. A bit of handiwork and some lovely silk velvet or silk moire and rich opulent fringes and tassels - easily made up with these types of panels as the focal point of the top. Fill with a down-filled pillow and row them along your sofa, place one in each big overstuffed chair - your friends will think you've hired a world-class decorator. The pillows you see in 'Veranda', 'Southern Accents', 'Architectural Digest' and other home decor magazines all show the kind of luxurious and stunning pillows I'm talking about, but shops sell them for $1500 to $5000 each, so here's your chance to make or 'commission' your own design, you own pillows. Our fragments and beaded panels are each completely cleaned, sanitized and are odor-free for your use. All that's left for you to do is pick your fabric and fringe (the richer, the better result) and do a little sewing (or hire someone who can).
This one is a fine English Victorian hanging firescreen panel which would have hung from a frame apparatus that clamps to the mantel. I do have several of the frames/clamps in case you wanted to keep it as a firescreen, by the way, though they will be sold separately, so you'll have to ask me about those. This panel is nice and large, shield-shaped, and is a compliment of beadwork and woolwork needlepoint, lush in original fringe and silk backing, complete with its silk cord and tassel. We've tried to show it well. It is lined, as you can see, with the original backing, and can quite easily be mounted as it is, or the backing taken off to expose a 1/2 to 1 inch border of canvas. Again, clean and odor-free, heavy and entirely in glass beads. This one could be a fabulous addition to your Christmas decorations if used with the appropriate frame at the fireplace, or even mounted on a wall as a wall hanging, or will become a truly magnificent pillowtop!
Very good to excellent condition, as noted above. Not a single bead missing as far as I've been able to tell, and the wool needlepoint background (red, crimson) and lush fringe, cord and tassel are all original to the firescreen, all in superb condition. Even the striped silk backing remains excellent.
