Fabulous antique 19th century Victorian era Black Forest hand carved double inkwell or inkstand, pen holder backing with nib or pen brush and a very rare figural grouping of TWO FOXES! Foxes, dogs and cows or farm animals are among the more rare of the Black Forest figures and we've got several listed this week! Nice size here, not to mention the wonderful figures. Oval in shape, the carved upper is actually resting on an oval pedestal style base and the fence post style backing acts as part of the scene but doubles as a dip pen stand! A large fox figures lying or crouching across the top and a smaller animal poking his head out from a hidden layer or den below! Superb!
Good-very good condition. This one has a few flaws. First, there is only one porcelain ink pot. The twig pen holders on the fence are replacements as is the nib or pen brush (though it was salvaged from an antique brush of the same period). The upper fox's snout has been recarved and is a replacement up to where his head flares out from the nose. See pictures for measurements.
