I've just listed a set of old Palais Royal mother of pearl sewing tools still in the tray and original box, but this set is only the lift-out tray alone, no box. Measurement: 7" x 3" and 1/2" deep+, in case it might fit into an old early 1800s box you already have. Still has the chenille-trimmed silk pad, and along with it came the carte de visite photo shown with the set. This was included as being the owner of the set, given to a relative in her will. The sewing tray, implements pre-dates the old c.1860 photo, however, so obviously already a family heirloom in her time. The scissors and bodkin and thimble are all .800/1000 French silver, marks, as is the cap for the perfect little perfume vial, flask, bottle. It's missing 1 of the original 4 thread or silk spools, but in its place a Victorian measuring tape came with it. I will say, I do not think the bodkin is original since it isn't a perfect match for the scissors as we would expect. Still, a lovely sewing collection and yes, we do know they'd sell higher than our price if we part it out (spools bring $150 each). We don't break up a set. Whatever history it brings with it, stays with it. Tray and silk pad are both in very fine condition.
Very good for age and type, most issues of condition I've addressed in the paragraph above. Obvious flaw: 1 of the original 4 ahead spools is missing, replaced with a Victorian tape measure holder. Spools are mother of pearl.
Our photos are large and clear. We do expect our customers to review them all, evaluate the item based on both our description and our images. Thanks for all the compliments - we love what we do! Antiques & Uncommon Treasure - all the best, all the time.
