Fine antique c.1820-40 Georgian era 10 5/8" wide jewelry, sewing or work box, perhaps a tea chest in Regency style with rosewood veneers, marquetry style inlays, steel handle & escutcheon and working lock with key! As a long time collector of antique boxes, I really do find myself sort of falling in love with each and every piece we come across. Usually rotating them for display on our coffee table and they're always both visually pleasing but also great conversations pieces when entertaining. This one not quite as ornate as some of our boulle or marquetry inlaid works, the Georgian era was a bit more subtle than the earlier Louis XV and later Napoleon III but the size and condition of this one make it a great decorative accent and perfect to use for a variety of purposes. Rosewood veneered exterior with a lighter fruitwood strip inlay around the lid edges. The steel handle is definitely a Georgian or Regency calling card. The interior has been relined in a burgundy fabric so we don't know what it would originally have been used for. Working lock & key though and undeniable visual & decorative appeal.
Very good condition. A few small signs of age in the rosewood veneers but no real losses or damage that I can see. As noted, the interior has been relined. Working lock with key. See pictures for all measurements.
